More Info
In the inaugural FIBA Americas League, the Tropics were one of 16 pro basketball teams from 8 nations selected to compete. Playing against the champions or runners-up from leagues in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, the Tropics made it all the way to the Final Four. That round-robin event was held in Mexico, and the Tropics tied for first with a 2-1 record, losing to Argentina's Penarol on a points tiebreaker. Officially, Soles of Mexico got the silver and the Tropics came away with the bronze. To get to the Final Four, the Tropics beat Puerto Rican champion Santurce in a best-of-three home-and-home series. The Tropics lost on the road and then won two straight at home vs. Santurce. The Tropics opened the FIBA League by winning its four-team regional at FIU. The Tropics beat all three of their rivals - Puerto Rico's Arecibo, Mexico's Halcones and Mexico's Fuerza Regia.
