BIO

COLLEGE - OLE MISS
After sitting out one season as per NCAA transfer rules, Huertas is finally ready to play for the Ole Miss Rebels and show the nation his talent. Huertas has used the past year to get much stronger and continue to hone his tremendous shooting ability. Look for a breakout season from Huertas.

COACH'S QUOTE
"David is a quality young man and a big guard with the ability to score in a variety of ways," Ole Miss Coach Andy Kennedy said when he signed Huertas. "He is obviously familiar with the SEC and comes from a winning program. With the players we have graduating after this upcoming season, it's an ideal situation for us to have a player of David's caliber sit out a year and come back with three years left."

COLLEGE - FLORIDA
Huertas helped the Florida Gators win their first-ever national championship in 2006. He helped the Gators get to the Final Four with 14 key minutes off the bench against Villanova, contributing 3 rebounds and 2 points. Ironically, his one career start at UF came against Ole Miss, and he scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in that game. For the season, he averaged 2.5 points in 35 games. He made 76.5% of his free throws and 33.3% on 3-pointers. His season highs came against Savannah State, scoring 15 points and grabbing 8 rebounds.

INTERNATIONAL
In 2006, Huertas won a Gold Medal at the Centroamerican and Caribbean Games in Colombia, continuing his streak of delivering a championship at every level he has played in -prep, travel, international and college. In 2007, Huertas played with a college all-star team called SCORE International. They toured Argentina and went 5-0 against pro teams. Huertas scored 15 points in one game, 17 in another and had the winning free throws in a victory over the Obras Cobras, which had 7 members of Argentina's Olympic champion team.

TRAVEL TEAM
Huertas, a great shooter from three-point range, combined with Josue Soto and Denis Clemente in 2004 to form perhaps the best backcourt in Tropics history. Huertas averaged 20.5 points per game that summer and was one of 10 players from that year's travel team who went on to play college ball. Five of them were Nike All-Americans, which still stands as a program record. The five were Huertas, Soto, Clemente, Sammy Hernandez and Jason Bennett.

HIGH SCHOOL
As a senior, he averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds to lead Jacksonville ACD {28-3) to the 2005 state title in Class 2A. It was the first championship in ACD history, and the Apaches finished the season ranked 8th in the nation by USA Today. As a junior, he averaged 21 points per game and was named first-team all-state and Florida's Player of the Year in Class 2A. He set a school record that year with 10 three-pointers in one game.

PERSONAL
Born June 2, 1987 in Humacao, Puerto Rico. ... His father, Armando Huertas, was a pro player in Puerto Rico. ... The best players David has competed against are Dwight Howard, Martell Webster and Gerald Green, who are all now in the NBA.
